JOSEPH AND I

Posted by Cherry Gualingco on August 15, 2012 at 5:50 AM

The Warmth breeze of the wind joyfully touched the leaves of trees to dance in rhythm, the mountain that covered with fresh green grass inviting the sheep to harvest them; the clean blue icy water surrounds the mountain. The bird’s lullaby harmonized in perfect tune. This was the scene I saw in this lovely place of Canaan. I loved the way wind played my pretty wings. ‘’what are you doing here?’’ asked a small voice. ‘’oh! My poor dear why I’ve been here every day yet you don’t know why am I here?’’ a sweet smile formed in my sexy lips when I saw a cute butterfly behind me. ‘’ you too have wings huh? What is your name then?’’ added the butterfly.’’ I am Freya Veda, my name means cold life’’ I replied. ‘’what’s on your hand?’’ the butterfly asked. ‘’it’s my magic wand’’ answered mine. ‘’do you know who they are?’’ asked the butterfly. I looked down and fondness was shown in my expressive eyes staring at the boy who stood among his brethren.’’ He is joseph, one of the youngest among Jacob’s twelve sons.’’ I am his fairy’’ but when I looked back it was gone. I sighed and went to joseph; my boy must be tired of caring those hundred sheep I twist my wand with expertise and the cool wind refreshed him. My heart leaped because of those smiles he never failed to make me feel proud. Joseph being seventeen was feeding the flock in this lovely place with his brethren pastoring their own sheep. I watched him every time of every day. I was glad his father loved him. Jacob who had Zilpah and Bilhah as wives. Joseph was good at interpreting dreams it was one of his gift from God besides, he was a dreamer. One night Joseph dreamed a dream he told this to his father next to his brothers over breakfast. ‘’behold we were binding sheaves in the field and lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright, and behold, your sheaves came round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf’’ said he. They hated more for his dream and for his words. They couldn’t speak peaceably to him and it made me sad.

One day joseph went to feed his flock, I watched him sitting on the rock with a stick on his right hand and a stone on the left. I could see how tender his black and deep set eyes staring to those fat sheep. I wished he could see me but impossible! I wasn’t given a magic to appear ones vision. I was sleeping when the heaven showered that magic. He can’t see me but he could feel my existence. I took a deep sigh and gently spread my wings to play with the wind which I always did each time we were in this lovely place of Canaan. Another day had come and his brethren went to feed Jacob’s flock in sachem. Jacob sent Joseph out from the valley of Hebron on our way to his brethren; he noticed that one of the lambs was lost. I could see panic in his eyes I flew toward the thick grass there I saw a little lamb struggled to come out. I used my wand to clean the area then the little lamb was running toward the flock. ‘’there you are! I thought I lost you’’ said Joseph with relief. I smiled when I saw him carrying the little lamb. Joseph was singing through his heart when we saw the place but when we came closer His brethren weren’t there. Tiredness was written in his handsome face. I thought an idea to create a man who would tell him where they were, and in just a blink of an eye there was a man came wandering what he was seeking. ‘’I pray thee, where they are feeding the flock?’’ asked he. ‘’ They were departed hence, for I heard them say let us go to Dotham ‘’ replied the man and Joseph and I went there. I was leading joseph and my heart was hurting upon hearing what they said ‘’here the dreamer cometh ‘’. I took a lot of control not to turn them into frog. They hated joseph for aversion was written in their face because of his existence. No wonder why joseph loved by his father more than Jacob did to his other sons. Jacob even made a robe with different beautiful colors that his brethren envied him more. I heard his brethren planned to slay him, to cast him into the pit and Reuben said unto his brothers not to hurt Joseph. ‘’ahuh!’’ I thought an idea! I went to the said pit and dried the water inside. I saw hard and big stones under ‘’this must be hurt for my boy’’ I thought so I turned stone into soil. I counted a thousand times not to hurt them when I saw them stripped Joseph’s robe then cast him in the pit. ‘’don’t worry dear I will make you another one’’ I whispered and did. They gave his robe to Jacob, made him believed that joseph was dead. They tried to comfort their father but Jacob refused. He wanted to mourn his son’s grave.

My heart was crying when I saw them selling Joseph to Potiphar an officer of pharaoh’s the captain of the guard. If only I could revenge for joseph but I can’t, I am not a bad fairy. I raised my wand twist it and an unseen shade followed Joseph to protect him from the burning sun. We journeyed until the sun was about to set. We were almost there when the donkey that was ridden by Potiphar stopped galloping. There was a snake vertically lying, the cobra was very angry and there was a fire in his hunger eyes. I made a stone and Joseph noticed it, he picked the stone then hit the head of the snake with bravery, it was dead. We are heading toward Egypt I was not worried because my Lord was with him. God made him a prosperous man. Joseph and I stayed in Egypt for long years. There was a wicked queen who adored Joseph, his master’s wife. One night the queen asked to him to lie with her. One of the commands of heaven to me was to deliver him from temptation. I made a dark spot then placed it to her face each time they met, I curled her straight hair, I wrinkled her fair skin but to Joseph’s eyes only, this would make her invulnerable in his sight and it worked, he refused but his master’s wife was persistent to have him. She asked him every day ‘’come to my bed’’ but Joseph was still. One of the reasons why he didn’t agreed was he considered what might his master would think about him. The pride of the queen was hurt. ‘’you’ll goanna pay for this beggar! Nobody dare to refuse me!’’ said the wicked queen. She accused him of mocking her. I was with him inside the prison. My heart was torn upon seeing how miserable the prison was no bed to comfort him, no light to brighten the darkened corner. Every night when he was asleep I made him an invisible bed made of cotton for his comfortable sleep, I made him a thick blanket to cover him from cold, and I even fight with the mosquitoes at night. One evening Pharaoh had a dream no one could interpret, the battler remembered what Joseph was said before they cast him in prison that he was an interpreter. He told Pharaoh about him and the latter ordered to free him to interpret his dream. Pharaoh’s dream told that, there will be famine symbolized by seven reedy cattle and after seven years of poverty seven years of prosperity symbolized by seven healthy cattle.

I was very happy for the luck of Joseph being thirty years old stood next to the king. One day Joseph and I went to the river to take a bath suddenly we heard a beautiful voice singing like a nymph. Joseph stopped and listened for a while, the owner of the voice rose we had the chance to see her face. ‘’oh!’’ I heard him grasped. I was smiling ‘cause it was the first time that there was someone who caught his attention because of those gray eyes, the girl who owned pretty smiles in her perfect curved lips, and the girl who walked gracefully in her sexy body that swayed her straight and black as night hair. The lady noticed him and she immediately covered her body in the water. She was taking her bath too. ‘’go away! You invader!’’ shouted her. ‘’wait lady, I am Joseph, I am not a bad guy’’ explained him. That was the start of their love story. I could see how happy Joseph was on the day of their wedding upon seeing his breathtakingly beautiful bride in her off shoulder white gown. I made it with lovely flowers. The happiness of the couple was steadfast as they were blessed with two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh. These two bouncing baby boy reminded me of their father when Joseph was still a baby. One thing I was waiting to happen, the reunion of his family and I will be gone the thought of leaving them was killing me, I wished I could extend my sojourn but my time was coming I flew to the land of Canaan I had to searched his family it was my last mission to accomplish good thing I saw them heading toward Egypt. The interpretation of Joseph about Pharaoh’s dream happened but Egypt was blessed to have bounty stocks of food. Jacob’s family came to buy food, and they were amazed to see Joseph leading the people of Egypt, his brethren asked for forgiveness and they were forgiven. Joseph was good at heart he didn’t sold the food to his family instead he gathered them there and give abundance to them. Jacob was happy to have his son back again, his beloved son. I should have felt wonderful for joseph’s family but part of my heart felt sadness. I chose thirty years of agreement I never thought that it would hurt like this to leave someone who became a part of my life; I loved him, his family that it hurts me to leave. I flew from the window teary eyes, wounded heart and lonely without him. One glance to him before I take off ‘’you were the best thing that ever been mine, farewell my friend’’ tears on my cheeks as I whisper ‘’good bye.’’
